Sutivan with its 720 inhabitants is certainly one of the smallest Croatian municipalities, located on the island - as opposed to Split, stretching along the northwest coast of the island of Mirca to Bobovišća.
Name Sutivan official name is derived from the name of an early Christian basilica sanctus Johannes, although local residents and other islanders call Stivan exclusively in this form also occurs in various historical documents.
